Rarity shows how uncommon a pigeon is. It is one of the fixed identity traits a pigeon has when it is minted or purchased. In VPR, rarity is part of what makes some pigeons more collectible and strategically interesting than others.
A rarer pigeon can have advantages, but race results still depend on the full pigeon profile, race setup, and conditions.
The rarity tiers
VPR uses four rarity tiers:
Common
Uncommon
Rare
Ultra Rare
In simple terms, Common is the most common tier and Ultra Rare is the rarest.
What rarity means in practice
Rarity is best understood in three ways:
1. How uncommon the pigeon is
A rarer pigeon is harder to find than a common one. That makes rarity part of the pigeon’s collectible value and long-term appeal.
2. Starting potential
Rarity influences starting potential. Higher rarity pigeons may have better genetics, higher ceilings, or stronger long-term value.
3. Recovery after races
Rarity also affects recovery. When a pigeon is recovering, it cannot race or breed. Higher rarity pigeons have a lower recovery time after races than lower rarity pigeons. That means they can become available again sooner after racing.
How to use rarity as a player
A simple way to think about rarity is:
Collectibility: rarer pigeons are harder to find
Strategy: rarity can affect starting potential and recovery
Long-term planning: rarity can matter for breeding and overall pigeon value
