What average speed means
Average speed is a summary of race performance, not a core ability. It helps answer a simple question: how fast has this pigeon been, on average, in the races it has already completed?
Because it is based on race history, average speed becomes more useful as a pigeon completes more races.
How average speed is calculated
Average speed is calculated from completed races. A pigeon with little or no race history may not have a meaningful number yet. Early pigeons can show 0.00 until they have raced. As more race results are added, average speed becomes a stronger reflection of that pigeon’s past performance.

Average speed vs speed score
These two fields are not the same.
Average speed is based on completed races and reflects recorded race history.
Speed score is a separate speed-related value on the pigeon profile.
That means a pigeon can have a strong average speed because of good race results, while speed score is still shown as its own separate metric.
Average speed vs favorite distance
These fields also do different jobs.
Average speed tells you how fast the pigeon has been on average.
Favorite distance tells you which race distance the pigeon has performed best at historically.
Together, they give you a better picture of both how fast a pigeon has been and where it tends to perform best.

Average speed is based on past race results. It is helpful, but it does not guarantee future results. Race outcomes are still influenced by distance, conditions, and the rest of the pigeon’s profile.
A low-race-history pigeon may have little or no useful average speed data yet. This field becomes more informative over time.
