How many pigeons can enter a race

Learn how race size works in VPR, including the minimum number of pigeons and why the total can vary per race.

Written by VPR

The number of pigeons that can enter a race depends on the race. Some races have fewer slots, while others allow more participants.

Minimum number of pigeons

A race needs at least 2 pigeons to take place. That means a race cannot start with only one pigeon entered.

Maximum number of pigeons

There is no fixed maximum across all races. The total number of pigeons that can enter is different per race.

In practice, each race shows its own slot count on the race page, so you can always see how many places are available.

How to check race size

When you open a race, you can see:

  • How many pigeons have already joined

  • How many slots are still open

This makes it easy to see whether the race is nearly full or still waiting for more participants.

What happens if a race does not fill

If a race does not get enough participants, it does not start.

In that case:

  • The pigeons return to their Lofts

  • Paid entry fees are returned to the wallet

Important things to know

Race size is not the same for every event. Always check the race page for the current slot count. A race may still show as Pending until enough participants have joined.
