Selling a pigeon: what happens next

Learn what happens when you sell a pigeon NFT, including ownership transfer, access in VPR, and what stays part of the pigeon’s history.

When you sell a pigeon in Virtual Pigeon Racing, you are selling the NFT pigeon itself. That means the pigeon’s ownership transfers to the buyer’s wallet, and you no longer own or control that pigeon.

Ownership transfers to the buyer

VPR pigeons exist on the Polygon blockchain and ownership is publicly recorded and transferable.

Once the sale is completed, the pigeon:

  • Belongs to the buyer’s wallet

  • Can be used, transferred, or sold again by the new owner

You can sell pigeons through the official VPR marketplace or supported third-party NFT platforms.

Note: The VPR in-game marketplace is not available yet. It is currently being built and will be released in the near future.

What changes for you in the game

After the sale:

  • The pigeon will no longer appear as owned by you in your VPR loft

  • The pigeon will no longer appear in your wallet

  • You will no longer be able to use that pigeon for racing or breeding, because it is no longer yours

What stays with the pigeon

A pigeon’s identity and history are designed to be permanent and verifiable. Race history cannot be secretly rewritten, and core genetics cannot be changed after creation. This means the pigeon keeps its history and identity as it moves between owners.

Important: Sales are ownership transfers. If you want the pigeon back later, the new owner would need to sell or transfer it back to you.
