Once a pigeon is created in Virtual Pigeon Racing, its core genetics and attributes are permanently fixed. These properties are defined at creation and are protected by the blockchain system used by VPR.
This means developers cannot secretly modify a pigeon’s genetics, bloodline, or core attributes after it exists.
Why genetics and attributes cannot be changed
Pigeons in VPR are NFTs stored on the Polygon blockchain. Because of this, key information about each pigeon becomes part of its blockchain record.
This includes elements such as:
Genetics and genotype markers
Bloodline and breed type
Core attributes that define the pigeon
Once this information is recorded on the blockchain, it cannot be secretly edited or altered later. This ensures every pigeon remains consistent, verifiable, and fair within the ecosystem.
What can change over time
While core genetics and attributes remain fixed, some aspects of a pigeon can develop through gameplay.
For example:
Race performance and history can grow as pigeons participate in races
Experience and progression can evolve based on activity in the game
These elements become part of a pigeon’s history and may update its metadata over time. When updates occur, the pigeon’s metadata can be refreshed so the latest information is reflected across the ecosystem, including platforms that display the NFT. Importantly, these updates do not change the pigeon’s core genetics or attributes.
Can developers freeze the system or pause ownership?
No. The NFT contract used for VPR pigeons does not include a pause function. This means developers cannot freeze pigeon ownership, prevent transfers, or pause the contract to restrict how players use their pigeons.
Because pigeons are blockchain assets, ownership remains controlled by the wallet that holds the NFT, not by the platform.
Why this matters for players
This system helps ensure a fair and trustworthy ecosystem:
Developers cannot secretly modify pigeons
Players compete based on real performance and strategy
Genetics and bloodlines remain consistent and verifiable
Because pigeons are blockchain assets, their identity and genetics remain transparent and tamper-resistant.
