Generation shows how far a pigeon is removed from the original VPR supply. It helps you understand whether a pigeon comes directly from the first launch or from later breeding.
In simple terms:
Gen 1 pigeons are the original pigeons created by VPR
Gen 2 and above are created through breeding
What Gen 1 means
Gen 1 pigeons are the foundation of the VPR ecosystem. They are the first and only pigeons created directly by the platform. The Gen 1 supply is permanently capped at 60,000, and no more Gen 1 pigeons can be created after launch.
That makes Gen 1 important for three reasons:
they are the original foundation bloodlines
they are structurally scarce
they are the starting point for all future generations
How later generations are created
All pigeons after Gen 1 come from breeding. That means new pigeons enter the game through breeding, not through new Gen 1 minting.
Simple examples
Gen 1 + Gen 1 = Gen 2
Gen 1 + Gen 2 = Gen 3
Gen 2 + Gen 4 = Gen 5
A simple way to think about it is: the child generation goes one step above the highest-generation parent.
Later generations can keep expanding. Generations are not limited to Gen 2 or Gen 3. Over time, new generations can continue to appear in the ecosystem through breeding.
Why generation matters
Generation is not just a label. It matters because it affects how a pigeon fits into the wider VPR ecosystem.
1. Origin
Generation tells you whether a pigeon comes from the original launch or from a later breeding line. Gen 1 pigeons are the original foundation pigeons.
2. Scarcity
Earlier generations, especially Gen 1, are more limited because the original supply is fixed. No new Gen 1 pigeons can be created later.
3. Breeding strategy
Generation also matters for breeding. Gen 1 pigeons have the strongest breeding utility, while higher generations generally have more limited breeding capacity over time.
