Race winner explained

In VPR, the winner of a race is decided by velocity. In simple terms, the winning pigeon is the one with the highest average speed over its race route.

Most of the time, that also means the pigeon that appears to finish first wins. But not always.

The main rule is:

You can think of velocity as distance over time. So the system looks at how quickly the pigeon completed its race route.

In some races, especially My Loft Races, pigeons may not all fly to the exact same finish point. That means one pigeon can appear to arrive first, while another still wins because it achieved a higher average speed over its own route.

So the winner is not decided only by what looks first on the screen. It is decided by the race calculation.

In a One Loft Race, all pigeons start from the same point and fly the same overall distance. Because the setup is the same for all pigeons, the bird with the highest velocity will usually also be the one that finishes first.

In a My Loft Race, the loft position can differ within the allowed race circle. Because of that, route length and conditions can vary. In these races, the pigeon with the highest velocity wins, even if another pigeon appears to come home first.
